Who or what are carers?

Carers look after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid.

Sometimes carers find that their lifestyle and relationships with family members and friends can dramatically change as a result of their demanding and often exhausting role as carers. They may suffer feelings of isolation and loneliness, perhaps accompanied by financial and health problems. We are here to help.

We also support former carers who often find it difficult to adjust their lives after a long period of caring.

Children and young people (under 18) who undertake caring responsibilities or who are affected by a caring situation are known as Young Carers and have their own support organisation in Surrey, Surrey Young Carers
